How Expanding SCHIP Could Affect the Health Insurance Industry

The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) provides federal funds to states on a matching basis to help fund health insurance coverage for uninsured children living in low-income households.

While the program enjoys wide bipartisan support, there are significant differences of opinion regarding the expansion of the program and at what cost. In the current "Pay-Go" budget environment, any expansion must be paid for by increased taxes and/or cutting other programs. Where should Congress draw the line?
